CHAPTER SEVEN
‘Sitting with the Devil’ Meditation

There has to be evil so that good can prove its purity above it. [57]
~ Unkwown
Our enemies are our greatest teachers.[58]
- Dalai Lama.
The wise learn many things from their enemies.[59]
~ Aristophanes

Sometimes in life, we can feel trapped inside our own bodies, as if the devil is sitting next to us, tempting, willpower gone. I have known it myself, feeling as if I was drowning and searching for a life raft; it felt as though anyone who could or would help, I would try to pull into the waters I was drowning in myself, in effect, pulling others into my storm. My sentiments felt like this quote from lyrics of a song.

Don’t you come near me ‘cause the devil’s sittin’ next to me. [60]
~ Tech N9ne

Well, I found sitting with the emotional tides that plagued me was a blessing as it taught me a lot, and so I am going to share with you how I do it and a few other introductory techniques to assist you in finding peace and tranquility amongst all the chaos.

I must have a dark side also if I am to be whole.[61]
~ Carl Jung

Sitting with emotion—or ‘sitting with the devil’ as I have come to casually call it—can and should be done with all emotions, so my term is not a negative one as emotions are not positive or negative, good or bad per se, nor are they necessarily attachments. The ‘sitting with the devil’ technique is how to tune in and connect with those energies.

The name ‘sitting with the devil’ is from my personal introduction to engaging the 108 head-on in this fashion, as you are facing your demons or, in this case, sitting with them. These are teachers, not to be feared. Instead, accept these beings instead of rejecting them, which creates attachments.
Often, we have emotional experiences, and do not allow ourselves to experience them fully.

Instead of fully experiencing emotions, many have a habit of clinging, rejecting, suppressing, or ignoring them and these unexplored emotional experiences stack up. (Have you ever wondered why the same type of things keeps happening to you? Well simply put, each lesson will keep repeating itself until it is learned! This is a school, and school is in session!) This is where we face ourselves and our shadow selves.

To create a mindset before we go into the meditation technique, we are going to allow ourselves to open up, look in, and explore emotions. In essence, sitting with them. I like to work from a place of gratitude to start, even though what I may be facing may be painful, exhilarating or debilitating. For surely, it warrants attention if it is in my field of attention.

It is important to note again that each emotional entity has its own unique vibrational marker; likewise, each feels different if you explore the subtleties. It is helpful to be able to identify and put a name to the different emotions as you work through them.

You can do this anywhere—sitting, kneeling, lying, standing, in a meditative position or not. It is a personal preference. Ideally, find a place that is comfortable and feels safe, where you can be alone and let the emotion out, cry or whatever you need to do to fully experience it.

To sit with an emotion, we must engage it, allow it to become fully present and be present with it. Allow the emotion to course through you, then build up in energy without attaching to it. Keep your breathing steady but if you feel agitated or panicked, take a deep breath, hold it about eight seconds and then let it out slowly. Do this a few times as needed then go back to the exercise.

These entities can be frightening without even knowing what they look like; just that thought alone can put many on edge. Fear can happen especially if you tap in and see the entities form during or after an exorcism, or when you (re)gain singular sight. Sometimes, that singular sight is a temporary sight given to awaken perceptions.

Fear is a powerful energy since many people’s perceptual standpoints have been ingrained to fear ‘demons’. A possible preconceived idea of what you might see or imagine can add to fear, just from the mind.

The attachment of a preconceived fear brings about a stirring feeding frenzy of emotions (energy in motion). This clouds the mind and makes it easier to act reactionarily to new emotional or sensational input. Moving through fear in dissolving the reaction of that sense allows you to regain control over their vessel and act, instead of being reactionary, as you move through the mental and emotional chatter.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.[62]
~ Frank Herbert, Dune

Your strength against these beings is determined by a developed power of will. If you are weak or lacking in willpower, the aspects of ego can take you for a run. The stronger your resolve of willpower, the stronger you are against them. But rather than viewing this as a battle, this is simply allowing the experience to exist without judgment
or interpretation.
An excellent descriptor of this to wrap your mind around is this parable:

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness
comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them
all! Even if they are a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep
your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out for some new delight. The
dark thought, the shame, the malice. meet them at the door
laughing and invite them in. Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.[63]
~ Jalaluddin Rumi

Being mindful and learning their individual markers (vibrational feelings) can make it so they become like old friends and you get to learn their true names, so let it know you know its real name, as this brings a more equal footing.

Purposefully removing an entity weakens its ability to attach to your vessel in the future unless you renew the behaviors of that earthly desire, allowing it to reattach. When you can develop the watcher’s mind, and you meet again, it will be on the terms of seeing an old friend or acquaintance that came by for a short spell or even as that of the wind as it comes and goes.

With all meditation practices, it is wisest to start and end each practice with a few minutes of deliberate silence. For example, the mind is like a large deep sea. If you were to deep-sea dive down to the lower depths without properly pressurizing, or come up quickly, this will cause what is known as decompression sickness or ‘the bends’. In other words, if you dive down in the mind, it may cause headaches or irritability if you abruptly exit. In meditation, we want to be relaxed, at ease and not in a rush. This is a time to let go and just exist.

It is wise to start out with some breathing techniques.

Technique

Close your eyes, take a few long deep breaths, and sit for a moment with your thoughts and intentions. Bring the chosen emotional-energetic entity into focus. You can start by bringing in mental imagery to focus where you believe the emotional attachment/feeling roots from, follow and explore it.

Several emotions may be connected to the experience. Isolate one and bring it into focus (you can go back to the others later). Allow the unique feeling of the emotional entity to wash over and through the body. Acknowledge it.

You may not even know what to call this emotion, but you know what it feels like and the weight of it. Now really allow yourself to feel it, allowing it to be expressed throughout your whole body, whether you cry, shiver, shake, hyperventilate, laugh, feel warm or cold, feel tingles or surges of energy or whatever it is, allow the experience, and be a witness to it. If you feel the need to run and hide or a state of feeling paralyzed, be steadfast and unflinching. It only has the power you give it.

This is like a ‘Hello, I see you! Who are you? We seem to be sharing the same vessel, so let’s sit down for tea.’ And then get to know it. Watch and witness how the mind reacts and where the mind takes you.

After extended focus on the mind, turn the focus to witness the body’s experience of its interaction (examine it, how does it feel?), pay attention to where in your body you feel it the most, see if you can pinpoint a location and bring your attention to that area of your body. Note whatever emotion you have brought in, whether one of the 108 energetic entities aspects of ego or not.

Now work to put a name to it. Once you can put a name to this emotion, picture a room in your imagination (seed of the mind).

In the room is the emotional or sensational experience leading to the attachment of that emotion to the mind and body, and instead of just the experience, situation or person, we also see the demons (influencers) in their part. Go over the scenario and apply the entity’s role like a puppet master leading you or others. Do not use this as a time to judge yourself or others. Keep in mind you or another may have been ignorant or weak in will and see the entity’s role in that.

You may often find additional emotions as well during this process. Isolate and stay with the one. Focus and stay on track.

With a clear imagery or feeling, bring the room to the place it was pinpointed in the body, letting the other aspects of the scenario dissolve away, and holding the feeling and mental imagery of the entity.

Enter the room and leave the door open. If you see other closed doors or windows, open them, continuing to allow yourself to feel the emotion and start a dialogue. Have a full-blown conversation with the entity that engaged the emotion in the first place.

Ask questions!

Why is a good one to start with, and you can take that through multiple layers of why. Let your intuition guide, if guiding is needed for further questions.

You might release emotions with tears, chuckles, shivers, shakes, short or long breaths, etc., it may range from any array. Sit with whatever comes, as long as you need to. When ready to move on, bring the experience you earlier let dissolve away come back into view of the mind. Sit with it and the emotion while letting go of the emotion or experience if you choose to, acknowledging that you choose to let it and the weight from it go.

See it through new eyes, take a few deep breaths, and feel the weight of the held emotion and or experience being freed and dropping from you as you let out each breath, just being with the feeling and vibration of that emotion. With that breath, feel it exiting, falling away, lightening you more and more with each out breath, allowing it to dissolve or evolve into a new experience on its own.

This technique gets you to a point where you may move into one or more of the more in-depth removal processes, which are in the next chapter. If there are other entities you put aside earlier to single that one out, go back and address them one by one.

Key takeaways:

- Sitting with your emotions will allow you to experience them fully.
- It is important to identify and put a name to the different emotions as you work through them as each is unique.
- To sit with an emotion, we must engage it, allow it to become fully present and be present with it.
- Don’t rush into meditation or hastily deep dive into the mind; it can cause irritability and even headaches.
- Take your time to just be with what you are doing when in practice.
